Hemkund Sahib (also spelled Hemkunt) is a Sikh place of worship Gurudwara, known as Gurudwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib Ji, devoted to Guru Gobind Singh Ji (1666â€“1708), the tenth Sikh Guru, which finds mention in Dasam Granth, a piece of work believed to be narrated by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, located in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, India. With a setting of a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks and each peak adorned by a Nishan Sahib on its cliff, it is located in the Himalayas at an elevation of 4632 meters (15,200 ft) as per the Survey of India. It is approached from Gobindghat on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway. The main town near Govindghat is Joshimath.

Govindghat, a town in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, India, is located at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Lakshman Ganga rivers. It lies around roughly 22 km from Joshimath on NH58 at an altitude of 6000 feet. It is the roadhead and the starting point for trekking to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers. Hundreds of people, mostly Sikh pilgrims on way to the holy shrine of Hemkund Sahib and occasional tourists to the Valley of Flowers arrive here everyday.The Gurudwara located on the right bank of river Alaknanda is the most important landmark in the area. It also provides accommodation to pilgrims.
It is the last human habitation centre on the way to Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers. Ghangaria is a scenic hamlet perched at an altitude of 3,050mts above sea level at a distance of 13km from Govind Ghat and 4kms before Valley of flowers. The trek becomes easy to moderate from this point if you are travel towards Hemkund Sahib. The region is prone to heavy snowfall in winters, therefore the region remains opened from May to October..
The Gurudwara of Hemkund Sahib is located on the banks of Lake Hemkund, where the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, that is Guru Gobind Singh, meditated. It was the same Guru that started the new brotherhood called Khalsa.The design and construction of this gurudwara was not easy as the construction started in the early 1960s after the official visit of Chief Engineer of the Indian Army, Major General Harkirat Singh.
Hemkund Lake is situated near the Hemkund Gurudwara. It remains frozen during most of the year, approximately eight months. Surrounded by snow laden mountains on all the sides, this lake is considered to be a place of religious importance for Sikhs as well as Hindus.As per legend, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, that is Guru Gobind Singh meditated on the banks of the river.
The Lakshman Temple is located on the bank of the Hemkund Lake and the temple is also known by the name of Lokpal Temple among Hindus. It is believed that Lakshman, the brother of Lord Ram meditated in this region after the battle with Ravan's son Meghnad to regain his power.
Along the way from Hemkund Sahib to Gobind Dham is a path that turns towards the Valley Of Flowers bordered on each side by magnificent snow capped peaks. The gorge is carpeted with more than 300 species of wild flowers like the Snake Lily, Himalayan Blue Poppy, white and yellow Anemones, Calendula, Dianthus and Daisies. A broad assortment of butterflies, black and brown Himalayan bear, snow leopard, tahr, musk deer, serow and bharals are the other attractions of the national park.
Arrival Delhi Railway Station, Meet & Assist further drive to Hardwar, enroute lunch. Later drive to Hardwar transfer to your Hotel. Visit Har-ki-Pauri for Ganga Aarti in evening. Back to your hotel, Dinner & Night halt.
Early morning, Drive to Syanachatti via Mussoorie. Enroute bifurcate from main road to Lakahamandal (5kms /one side), visit the ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. After darshan drive to your onward destination. Check in Hotel at Syana Chatti.
Drive to Phool Chatti, trek start from here to Yamunotri. Either by walk or by horse or by Doli at own cost. Arr. Yamunotri, One can cook rice by packing it in a cloth and dipping it in the hot water of the hot kund. Pilgrims take this cooked rice home as "Prasad". Here near the temple "Pooja" can be offered to Divya Shila, After taking bath in Jamunabai Kund's warn water and having "Darshan" of pious "Yamunaji" returning to Hanumanchatti. Later drive back to Syanachatti. Overnight stay at Hotel.
Drive back to Haridwar, Check in Hotel. Overnight stay.
Morning visit Hardwar Local Sight Seeing. Later dep. to Delhi. On Arr. Delhi, Drop at Railway Station/Airport.
